Hearing about the tragic events that have happened to residents in Oklahoma this week really hits home for many here down in the south. Although we deal more with hurricanes, we have felt that wrath of Mother Nature.
But whether hurricanes, tornados or earthquakes, it’s our duty as fellow Americans to support and show our love to those who need it most in times like this. There’s nothing like feeling the outreach from millions across the nation-strangers at that-who are donating their time, money and thoughts because they care. Although it doesn’t change what happened, it helps us get through each disaster.
Gaining the title of the “deadliest tornado to hit the United States in two years,” residents in Moore and Oklahoma City area experienced winds reaching 200 miles per hour, which left a trail of destruction 17 miles long and 1.3 miles wide.
It’s times like this when heroes are born. Search and Rescue Teams, police officers, teachers, residents and even students were put to the test and have powered through without the blink of an eye. It’s astonishing to witness such courage and conviction.
It’s hard when something like this happens in a different region because you want to do all you can to help. And although it might be small in the grand scheme of things, DIS-TRAN Wood Products is joining countless others in showing support of the relief efforts by making care packages for the lineman who have been working around the clock to restore power in the devastated areas.
The care packages included Gatorade, water, gum, various snacks and also something a little more personal; a note of encouragement.
Hoping our small efforts are helping and encouraging you to do
your GREAT EFFORT!
It’s times like these when we know someone else is putting forth
the time to help restore that makes us proud to be Americans.
Going back to one of my favorite theories, the Pebble in a Pond-ripple effect; although the pond is wide and deep, after that one small pebble is thrown in, that pond will forever be changed.
